Irvin is a Brooklyn-based writer and professor from New Orleans. He has earned degrees from Morehouse College, Morgan State University, and The New School where he studied English, Education, and Creative Writing. Since 2003, he has been an educator in various capacities, first as a high school teacher in Baltimore and later as an adult educator in college and library settings. He is a 2022 Mellon/ACLS Community College Faculty Fellow and teaches composition and creative writing at Queensborough Community College. His memoir-in-essays titled In Open Contempt is forthcoming from Viking.
